The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is over for another year, 2018 came and went in a flash and it took with it another of the original Victoria’s Secret Angels. That’s right, last night Adriana Lima walked her 19th and final Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. It literally is the end of an era, with Alessandra Ambrosio announcing her retirement in 2017 and now Adriana Lima, we’re looking at something of an age gap on the Victoria’s Secret runway.
This Brazilian supermodel walked her first Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show at age 18, missed one show when she was pregnant, wore the coveted Fantasy Bra a whopping three times and has opened the show five times before announcing her retirement from the annual spectacle at age 37. It’s official, Adriana Lima is the most valuable (and bankable) Victoria’s Secret Angel of all time.
The veteran Angel announced she was retiring her wings mid-recording with the obligatory Instagram post, sharing her gratitude to the brand for nurturing her throughout her career.
“Dear Victoria, Thank you for showing me the world, sharing your secrets, and most importantly not just giving me wings but teaching me to fly, and all the ❤️ to the best fans in the 🌎! Love, Adriana” Adriana Lima via Instagram
Guests in attendance at both tapings of the show at New York’s Pier 94 were asked not to record and share any footage of Lima on the runway to social media ahead of the ABC screening however a swift scroll of your timeline this morning will show you that the many thousands of guests in attendance ignored that rule. Ooooops!
Victoria’s Secret paid a very special tribute to Lima playing a video montage of clips showing the Angel’s most iconic moments for the brand and calling her “The greatest Victoria’s Secret Angel ever” before thanking her and rewarding her with a solo runway walk. Visibly emotional, Lima paused at the end of the runway to take in a standing ovation.
Something tells me the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show will never be quite the same again.
